Craft Brew Spotlight: Tupps Brewery

A little over a year ago, a dream came to life for two North Texas compadres. They’d been brewing beer in a garage for about 6 years and decided to make it a business, opening Tupps Brewery adjacent to the historic Cotton Mill in downtown McKinney, Texas.

We love everything about this little brewery up in McKinney. Good ole boys Keith Lewis and Tupper Patnode founded the brewery with a few tenets in mind:

1.   Trust your senses: When brewing a new batch of Texas craft beer, Keith and Tupper always trust their eyes, nose, and mouth above all. Does it look, smell, and taste good? If not – it’s out. If so, then they know it’s a good beer, pure and simple. Then and only then do they rely on fancy, state-of-the-art equipment to perfect the quality and consistency of the beer.

2.   Beer is better enjoyed with company: At Razzoo’s, we completely agree! Tupps Brewery is a family friendly, dog friendly, super laid back type of place where you can kick your feet up and stay awhile. The brewery has a huge patio and taproom, reminiscent of a simpler time when life was slower. Feel free to write your name on the wall, put your feet on the tables, and just enjoy.

3.   Embrace your heritage: Tupps Brewery is proud to be a part of the heritage of Texas, built adjacent to the old Cotton Mill in downtown McKinney. It’s this heritage that inspires great new beers, while sticking to tradition and old time favorites as well.

If you have a free weekend, take a drive up to McKinney, Texas and tell our friends at Tupps Brewery we say howdy. In the meantime, stop by your local Razzoo’s Cajun Café and ask your server for a full list of Texas craft beers.

Craft Brew Spotlight: Oak Highlands Brewery

Over the last few years, Texans have made brewing craft beer an art, with amazing craft breweries popping up all over the Lone Star State. At Razzoo’s, we make it our business to try all of these new brews and offer some of our favorites in our restaurants. (Rough life I tell ya.)

Oak Highlands Brewery

Oak Highlands Brewery may be one of the newer craft breweries in Texas, but they’ve got this beermaking thing down. Opened in July of 2015 by a couple of Lake Highlands residents, Oak Highlands has quickly grown its team and its business. The brewery resides in a 16,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility, with ample space for brewing the best beer and tasting it too. If you’re going to be in the Dallas area, head over to Oak Highlands and check out their family-friendly taproom, perfect for guided tastings or trying a few new beers on tap. With plenty of games and big screen TVs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Oak Highlands.

Beer Above All

“Beer above all” is the slogan used by Oak Highlands, it just shows how much they value the end product. Everyone has a favorite type of beer, and Oak Highlands has something for everyone. Here are a few of our favorites:

·      DFDub: We love DFDub because it’s a smooth, medium bodied wheat beer with accents of banana and cloves. We know, sounds super weird, but just take our word for it.

·      Freaky Deaky: The award-winning Freaky Deaky is as fun as its name, using American hops to create a potent Belgian Tripel-style ale.

·      Derelict IPA: Consider yourself a hop head? Get down with the Derelict IPA, a bitter, American-style IPA brewed with 5 different hops for maximum punch.
